GWOC CHAMPIONS

Team Champs

The motto for this years Month of Champions is to "Run the Gauntlet". The Run started this past Friday and Saturday as Kettering Fairmont hosted the GWOC (Greater Western Ohio Conference) Wrestling Tournament. Centerville with only four returning district qualifiers and two seniors won their first overall GWOC TITLE!!!!

The Elk wrestlers were in second to fourth place most of the tournament.  Coach Bair had Saturday MOC (Month of Champion) shirts made that simply said FINISH across the chest.  The young Centerville Wrestlers took this to heart, everyone won at least a match for the team race.  Once the consolation semis were completed the Black and Gold were in first place, a lead they held onto to win the GWOC Central and the Overall Championship.  The Centerville Elks Wrestling teams have won three Central Division Titles in the past six years, but have never won the overeall team race until this year.  A great way to FINISH!

Congratulations to the eleven wrestlers who placed:

Troy Barklay 3rd, Brenden Watson 1st, Cameron Crasto 6th, Josh Scanlon 4th, Alexander Bair 5th, Nick Duffy 3rd, Alec Gilchrist 6th, Corey Jones 2nd, Josh Harrell 4th, Garrett Conner 1st, and Conan Jennings 3rd.  Full brackets here (www.baumspage.com).

Thank You for all the support of the parents, friends, and family who not only supported us this weekend, but all season long.

Good Luck to the Freshman and Junior Varsity teams this weekend. The freshman travel to Dublin for the "Dublin All State and JV travel to Miamisburg for the JV GWOC.

JV GWOC

The JV team was at Miamisburg for the JV GWOC tournament.  We won 4 out of 9 weight classes represented by Centerville at the tournament.  Unfortunately for our dominators, no team score was calculated.  The team did very well and would have been 1st or 2nd.

Josh Hogan was champion at 106 lb.  He had a 30 sec pin in the finals.   Chris Cochran also pinned his opponent in the first period of the finals to place 1st at 160 lb.   Adam Tonkin pinned his opponent in the next match to be come champion at 170 lb.    John Andrews was the only champion who did not do so by pin.   John worked a series of take down and release against a Fairmont wrestler, resulting in major decision.

Ray Greene won two out of three matches to take 2nd at 195.  Also taking 2nd was Chris Klentz in the 145 lb wt class.  Jacob Duffy (152) and AJ Parker (182) placed 3rd.    Picture to be posted later.
